In 2012, the company donated about $75,000 in machinery and labor to help the community of Whale Rock build a new bridge that was destroyed during a wild fire.
The company’s founder and president, Gary Gerrard, spoke about the bridge project and about other contractors who volunteered. “We were just looking to help out,” Gerrard said. “We could help the most people at once by rebuilding the bridge.”
In May 2008, the company mobilized immediately following an EF3 tornado that struck the town of Windsor located 80 miles north of Denver with a population of 19,000. With much of Windsor leveled, Gerrard was one of the first contractors on the scene clearing roads and streets to allow access for emergency vehicles.
“We were working in Windsor when the tornado happened,” said Gerrard. “In fact, one of our excavators got hit. We just put our equipment to work clearing trees, and then just kept going.”
And, an early effort following a disaster happened in July 1997 when Gerrard provided equipment and personnel after tiny Spring Creek overflowed. The normally gentle stream became a raging river flooding much of Fort Collins following nearly 10 inches of rainfall in 6 hours.
Working at no expense to the community, the company pumped out water from residences and businesses and built a temporary structure to protect a flooded neighborhood threatened by another potentially catastrophic event.
