4 Flood-Hit Roads Reopen in Larimer County

LOVELAND—Larimer County's Engineering Department took another step toward restoring normalcy, announcing Friday the full-time reopening of four previously flood-devastated roadways.
County Road 43 between Drake and Glen Haven, County Road 63 (Fish Creek Road), County Road 47 at Big Elk Meadows, and County Road 44H in the upper Buckhorn Canyon now accept all general traffic, with no travel restrictions.
“An incredible amount of work went into making this happen,” said Todd Juergens, the county's senior construction manager. “It was difficult conditions. Access was difficult, and it was a really short amount of time to get the work done.”
Construction crews worked on more than 20 miles among the four roads. Juergens praised the tireless work of contracting companies Connell Resources, Gerrard Excavating and Coulson Excavating, which worked six-day weeks, often for up to 16 hours a day.
The four roads are made mostly of gravel, with permanent, paved repairs not expected until at least spring.
